Parts of a Friendly Letter

Objective: To teach students the five parts of a friendly letter through movement and song.

Procedure: Teacher will model parts of a letter with corresponding body parts.

• Heading is the head
• Greeting is the mouth
• Body is the stomach
• Closing is the knee
• Signature is the toes

Students will stand and as teacher calls out the parts of a letter the students will touch the correct body part. The fun part is when the teacher gets faster the students have to move faster.

There is also a song the students can sing to help them remember. It is sung to the tune of “The Farmer and the Dale.”

This song was created by the students. I involved them in what they thought the parts were.
