  • Knife (for cutting fruit)
  • Napkins
  • Chart Paper (Label--Fruit w/seeds & Fruit w/no seeds)
  • Plastic 4oz cups (to sort seeds)

Before beginning unit on seeds, do a KWL chart with students re: seeds. (On W part, make sure that "where do seeds come from" is listed!!)

After completing W part, tell children that they are going to investigate where seeds come from.
Have a bag (not clear) containing fruit.
Tell students that the contents of the bag contain seeds.
Have them make predictions as to what is in the bag that contains seeds.

Pull out one fruit. Ask, "What is this?" "Do you think it contains a seed?" Talk about student responses.
Cut open the fruit! Show students seeds/seed/no seeds.
Discuss observation!

Intro: Chart for Classifying fruit. Have one student come up and place the fruit in the correct category. Ask why he/she placed it there! Ask class if they agree with placement of fruit! Praise good work.
Continue activity until all fruit is used.

Allow each child to pick a fruit. Then instruct them to do the following before eating their fruit:
1) Name fruit then remove seeds
2) Sort seeds--place them with same seeds gathered from seeds collected as a group!
3) Eat Fruit!!!! 8>)

**Follow-up Activity: Rev. seeds and fruit. Have students pick a seed, glue to paper, then draw fruit from which it came. Label!!!!
