Seed Exploration
The past couple of weeks we have been reading and learning about seeds and plants. We read From Seed to Plant and are currently reading The Secret Life of Trees. The students come to school each day eager to look and see if SpongeBob has sprouted any more of his seeds. Yesterday the students added garden soil to their individual containers that they planted two bean seeds in. One of the benefits of having a room with windows is that we are able to open the blinds and allow the sunlight to help the seeds grow. One of the funniest parts of the process was explaining to the students what manure is. Manure was the main ingredient in our garden soil so I enjoyed telling them that cow poop is manure. The room filled with EWWWWWW! GROSS! COOL! More pictures to come as the seeds sprout.
UPDATE 2/03/2012
So we tried to grow the seeds in the window of our classroom. We saw very little growth. After two weeks we decided to move the seeds to the synthetic light and we kept it on 24/7. Most students had at least a sprout, some didn't make it. Oh well, that is scence!
