Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a fabulous Holiday Season!  We have been back to school now for two weeks.  I have noticed a lot of growth from a majority of the students.  Most of them are reading at grade level expectation.  I want them reading above grade level expectation.  I want them ready for the fast pace of third grade.  You will notice that most of their work is going to appear as science or social studies, in fact I am going to be focusing on non-fiction reading and integrating those subjects into our reading time.  Assessing student work will be tougher.  For example, vocabulary words will now count towards their spelling test grades.  The vocabulary words are always on their Homework sheets above their Reading Log.  Plus, the students practice their words every day in class. 

As we go through the rest of the year, I will keep you updated.  The best thing you can do with your child is READ and then READ some more. READ to them, have them READ to anyone.  Question what they read. Who is it about? What is it about? Are there any words that you need help with? Can you think of a better title? If you could change the ending, what would you change it to? READ!!!!!!!
